How long does it take to complete the program?
If you follow the program plan, it will take you approximately six months to complete either program although you will have up to twelve months to complete your program.
Do I need any special equipment?
You will need a computer with a modem and internet access. If you enroll in the Medical Transcription Program you will also need a word processing program and a standard sized transcription machine or a computer with a CD ROM drive and a foot pedal.
Do I need to be computer literate?
No. You will receive computer training during your course. You will learn how to use the software used in your course. You will learn how to create, save, print, and transmit files electronically in various formats. Do not worry if you have never worked on a computer, we are here to help you.
What kind of guidance will I receive?
You will complete various self-correcting exercises followed by exercises that are sent in to be corrected so that you will always have feedback as to your performance. When you use the computer lab, you will receive one-on-one personalized instruction.
Do I need to know medical terminology?
Yes. Understanding medical terminology, anatomy and physiology are all vital portions of your medical training. You will be given comprehensive study in all of these areas.
Is there a market for Medical Transcriptionists?
There is a great demand for skilled Medical Transcriptionists. You can work for a private physician, in a clinic or hospital or in your own home based business.
Is there a market for Electronic Claims Processors?
There is a great opportunity for individuals wanting to establish Medical Billing Centers and process claims electronically. Many physicians are not yet automated enough to take advantage of the benefits of Electronic Claims Processing. This is where your training will come in handy!
What will I receive upon completion of the program?
Upon program completion, you will receive a Diploma. You will also receive an official copy of your academic transcript which details your grades received, the number of program hours, the number of lessons completed and any awards received. You will also receive 12 CEUs from the College of Continuing Education at Hampton University.
