MT Support Services, Inc. is an institution committed to educational and personal enrichment. We provide quality training on a personal level to help students meet their career objectives. MT Support Services, Inc. realizes that our work force is constantly changing. We provide educational opportunities that meet these changes and prepare our students for new careers.

The History of MT Support Services, Inc.

MT Support Services, Inc. is a training facility that provides comprehensive correspondence study for individuals seeking career training and/or retraining.  MT Support Services, Inc. uses a variety of training methods to assist the student's understanding of the course material. These methods include: one-on-one communication via telephone, fax, electronic mail, and/or mail. MT Support Services, Inc. can also be reached through the internet, CompuServe, or America Online. The training materials for each course are updated yearly to ensure that the student uses the latest edition of all textbooks and reference materials.  Our programs are designed to be comprehensive and to assist students in meeting their goals.

MT Support Services, Inc. has a Certificate to Operate from the Department of Education located in Richmond, Virginia. 

Admission Requirements

All Students must be the legal age of an adult, being eighteen years old or older, or they must have the permission of their parents. 

Admission Procedures

To apply for admission to MT Support Services, Inc., applicants must submit a completed Application for Admission and Enrollment Agreement. 

Educational Objectives for Each Program

The educational objective for the Medical Transcription program and Electronic Claims Processing program is to provide students with the skills needed to acquire positions in their chosen field of study. The programs are designed to teach the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the jobs as described in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

According to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles Revised 4th Edition, Vols., I and II, graduates of the Medical Transcription program can expect to find employment as medical transcribers, dictating- machine transcribers, and dictating-machine typists. The educational requirements indicate that six months to one year of vocational training would prepare an individual for an entry-level position as a transcriber.

The graduates of the Electronic Claims Processing program can expect to find employment as hospital-insurance clerks, patient-insurance clerks, insurance clerks, and electronic claims processors. The educational requirements indicate that six months to one year of vocational training would prepare an individual for an entry-level position as an Electronic Claims Processor.

Grading System

Students are graded on completed assignments and written examinations. The final grade reflects a measurements of performance based on the course objectives.

Clock hours are defined as hours needed to complete the required program and testing materials.

All courses are designed to be completed in six (6) months.

Title, Scope, and Sequence of Each Program

Medical Transcription

The Medical Transcription program is designed to provide students with the skills needed to become medical transcriptionists. The program teaches students to adhere to the ethical and legal guidelines set forth by the American Association for Medical Transcription Code of Ethics.

 Several of these guidelines state that the transcriptionist should:

  1. Protect the privacy and confidentiality of the individual medical record to avoid disclosure of perennially identifiable medical social information and professional medical judgment; and,
  2. Strive to increase the body of systematic knowledge and individual competence of the medical transcription profession through continued self-improvement.

The subjects included in this program are:

  1. Medical Typing and Transcription
  2. Medical Terminology
  3. Medical Transcription

Electronic Claims Processing

The Electronic Claims Processing program is designed to provide students with the skills needed to become Electronic Claims Processors. The program teaches students about different types of insurance coverage and the procedures for filing claims. Coding principles are taught for coding procedures and diagnoses using the ICD-9 and CPT Coding Books.

The subjects included in this program are:

  1. Medical Terminology and Anatomy
  2. Understanding Health Insurance
  3. Computers in the Medical Office Using Medisoft

Policy Relating to Completed Assignments

All students are given a Suggested Course Outline which details weekly course objectives. Our programs are designed to be completed in six months; therefore, it is important that students follow these guidelines to ensure that his/her program of study is completed within twelve months (the maximum time allotted for program completion).

If a student fails to complete his/her program within a twelve month period, and has not requested an extension in writing, he/she will be terminated from the program.

Policy Related to Make-Up Work

Course work is completed on an individual basis and therefore makeup work is not applicable.

Policy Relating to Conduct

If students choose to use the laboratory, they must conduct themselves in a mature business-like manner. Offensive language or disrespectful attitudes towards faculty and/or students will not be tolerated.

Students may not possess, sell, use, give away, or distribute illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages on the premises. Students who violate this policy are subject to suspension or termination.

Smoking is not permitted inside of the building.

Policy Relating to Termination

Students will be terminated from the program if all course work is not completed in a twelve (12) months and no extension is requested in writing.

Required Levels of Performance for Graduation

Students must complete course work with an overall score of 70%.

Satisfactory Progress Policy

For satisfactory progression in the programs of study, students must maintain no less than 70% mastery of course objectives.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a Diploma.

Tuition and Other Student Charges

The tuition for the Medical Transcription program and the Electronic Claims Processing program is $1700.00 (Includes $725 course materials, $875 tuition, $50 registration fee, a $25.00 CEU fee and a $25.00).

Tuition Refund Policy

  1. If a student withdraws or is terminated after completing between 1 and 13 lessons, he/she shall be entitled to a minimum refund amounting to seventy-five percent (75%) of the paid tuition.

  2. If a student withdraws or is terminated after completing between 14 and 26 lessons, he/she shall be entitled to a minimum refund amounting to fifty percent (50%) of the paid tuition.

  3. If a student withdraws or is terminated after completing between 27 and 39 lessons, he/she shall be entitled to a minimum refund amounting to twenty-five percent (25%) of the paid tuition.

  4. If a student withdraws or is terminated after completing 40 lessons, he/she shall not be entitled to a refund.

Placement Assistance

Placement assistance through local employment agencies will be provided for students located within a 50 mile radius of the offices of MT Support Services, Inc.

 Student Support Services

Our students are individually advised and counseled through direct contact with their instructor by phone, mail, fax, and other electronic media. Students are guided in an orderly and organized manner toward achieving their educational objectives.

The Medical Transcription and Electronic Claims Processing Programs are designed to be completed in six months. Bimonthly progress evaluations which lists the student's strength and weaknesses shall be completed for all tests, quizzes, and graded assignments. Students are encouraged to follow the Suggested Course Outline in order to complete their program in a timely fashion.

One-On-One Interaction

We provide one-on-one interaction between the student and the instructor. This allows for individual differences of the students in our programs. The student receives consultation, direction, and feedback and evaluation from the instructor.

Examination Services

Examination services are provided throughout the program.  

Maintenance of Records

All student records to include: student tests, graded assignments, and academic transcripts are maintained at the offices of MT Support Services, Inc. Students will receive written feedback as to all materials turned into the offices of MT Support Services, Inc.  Upon completion of the program and after all financial obligations have been met, students will receive an official transcript along with their diploma and CEU certificate.

Complaint Resolution Procedures

All complaints will be evaluated and resolved in accordance with the policies of the local chapter of the Better Business Bureau.

If a student is unable to resolve a complaint at the school level, he/she may contact the Department of Education, Proprietary Schools, P.O. Box 6-Q, Richmond, VA 23216-2060.

Equipment Needed

In order to complete the Medical Transcription Program, a student will need the following equipment: Computer with access to the internet, word processing software, standard size transcription machine and printer.

The above referenced equipment can be purchased for $750.00 and up depending on the equipment purchased.

In order to complete the Electronic Claims Processing Program, a student will need the following equipment: IBM compatible personal computer (486 or higher) with access to the internet.

The above referenced equipment can be purchased for $750.00 and up depending on the equipment specifications.

All of the equipment needed to complete the above referenced programs is provided in our lab.

Statement on the Acceptance of Transfer Credits and Transferability of Credits Earned at the School

If you wish to transfer credits received from MT Support Services, Inc., you must first contact the receiving institution to determine transferability.   MT Support Services, Inc., accepts transfer credits on a case by case basis.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

MED 100 - Medical Typing and Transcription

Covers ethical and legal responsibilities of the MT, equipment, punctuation, capitalization, transcribing numbers, figures, and abbreviations, report formats, proofreading, professional development and much more.

MED 125 - Medical Terminology

Covers  Basic Elements of a Medical Word, Suffixes, Prefixes, Body Structure, Integumentary System, Gastrointestinal System, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular System, Blood, Lymph, and Immune Systems, Musculoskeletal System, Genitourinary System, Female Reproductive System, Endocrine System, Nervous System, and Special Senses. A systems approach is used.

MED 135 - Medical Transcription

The HPI SUM tapes or CD are used in the medical transcription program.  Students transcribe the following reports:  Pharmacology/Laboratory Medicine; Dermatology; Urology; Gastroenterology; Orthopedics; Cardiology; Endocrinology/Pulmonary Medicine; Obstetrics & Gynecology; Ears, Nose, Throat/Ophthalmology; and Nuerology.  This actual physician dictation is part of our comprehensive program and is arranged by body systems and is sequenced from simple to complex.

MED 138 - Understanding Health Insurance

A comprehensive course that is the Guide for the Professional Biller.  Topic covered in the program:   Insurance Specialist - roles and Responsibilities; Legal Considerations; Life Cycle of an Insurance Claim; Introduction to Health Insurance; Managed Health Care; Diagnostic Coding; Procedural Coding; Common Claims Processing Guidelines; Filing Commercial Claims; Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans; Medicare; Medicaid; Champus/Champva/Tricare; Workers' Compensation; Disability Compensation programs and much more.  Provides instructions in plain, simple to understand language.

MED 140 - Computers in the Medical Office

A comprehensive course that teaches the student the following computerized duties of a medical biller/insurance specialist.  Topics covered in the program include:  An Introduction to Computers; Introduction to Medisoft; Recording Patient Information; Recording Charges; Scheduling Appointments; Recording Payments; Report Management(Transaction Journal, Patient Ledger, Patient Aging, Insurance Aging, Patient Day Sheet, etc.); and Filing Claims Electronically and much more.
