Electronic Claims Processors (sometimes referred to as insurance specialists, coding specialists, and medical billers) process and transmit via computer completed insurance claim forms to clearinghouses. Claims are audited and forwarded for payment to Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and many more commercial insurance carriers.  Claims are processed in days rather than weeks. This is a great service for doctors and an excellent business opportunity for you.

The basic skills needed for an electronic claims processor are:   a strong medical language understanding, good oral and written communication skills; strong familiarization with computers and an in-depth understanding of the claims software used.   This person must pay close attention to detail and accurately code procedures and diagnoses.

In order to complete the Electronic Claims Processing Program, you must complete the following courses: MED 125 - Medical Terminology, MED 138 - Understanding Medical Insurance, and MED 140 - Computers in the Medical Office.
